ONGERIJMDHEID, is meant to encapsulate the overwhelming incongruous feeling that arises from consumption of social media and other forms of internet based media. Screenshots from social media feeds are used and randomized to increase discomfort and the feeling of incongruity or absurdity. How does the human brain cope with images of starving and dead children in between images of selfies, beautiful landscapes, memes, and delicious foods? What is the impact of seeing such paradoxical images side by side? How do we maintain our humanity in the normalization of mass death, chaos, and disassociation? 

Despite all of this, humans in dire situations find hope, community, and love as means of survival and maintaining their humanity. Refugees carry their terrified pets with them as they flee bombings that raze their neighborhoods, children and teachers create make-shift schools, communities work together to redevelop bronze age technology to circumvent embargoes, people share what little they have with as many as they can.
